Dr. Dan Shellenbarger is an educator, artist, documentary filmmaker, and researcher whose work explores how people come to understand the world.

Over the past four decades, his career has spanned journalism, public media, higher education, and the visual arts. He has interviewed hundreds of artists, produced award-winning documentaries for public television, taught storytelling and visual narrative for more than twenty years, and maintained an active studio practice alongside his work in media. 

He did his doctoral research at The Ohio State University, where his research focused on the thinking processes of artists. This research led him to explore the creative process and how understanding this process can help us confront everyday challenges in addition to creative solutions. 

He is currently developing work around wonder, which serves as a framework for exploring how curiosity, uncertainty, and sustained inquiry lead to deeper understanding.

Dan continues to write, teach, produce documentary films, and develop workshops that connect artistic thinking with leadership, education, communication, and everyday life. His work draws from the belief that meaningful understanding begins with curiosity, sustained attention, and the willingness to remain with what we do not yet know.
